I’m almost half way through my first public relations class at Missouri State University. COM 379 Writing for Public Relations, It’s a good class that makes you rethink your writing in terms of how you will push content. If you can learn how to push content effectively then you can be valuable in any business or market.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO’s), are the ways in which we try to enhance our chances of being searched for on the internet. One of the main ways we do this is by working with our headlines, what kind of things are we googling, how can you stand out with your headlines.

News Releases are also something that are being stressed. People like to know whats going on with a company, who makes it up, what are they working on, Why should I like them? News releases allow a company to answer those questions and expand their brand.

Media kits are popular with those in Public Relations and Advertising. These kits should include a feature story that describes the whole event or product. They should also include a fact sheet with information such as when and where an event is and other important information. Media kits can have other things such as public service announcments, personality profiles, and FAQs page.

How do we manage content? We can go traditional and have lots of different tabs open with different social media and try to effectively respond with people that way… OR we can use platforms such as Hootsuite. Hootsuite allows you to manage multiple social media accounts on one platform in which you can control

Here is another tip, don’t write for the elites, research shows that it is best to write at a sixth grade level. Paragraph size is also important, ideally you only want to have about three to four lines to a paragraph.

There are still things that I want to learn though. How can we spread awareness and interest of a political campaign most effectively using public relations techniques? I think we should also go deeper into the idea of public relations as it relates to sales.
